“we really enjoyed the hotel and food which was super.The only issue was the air conditioning wasn't working properly and while they gave us a fan it was a very humid night. The second ñight they gave us a a different room which was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back.”

“Fantastic stay. All Covid-19 guidelines were followed with all bar and restaurant staff wearing visors , distancing between tables etc. Food excellent on both evenings and freshly cooked breakfast served at table. We enjoyed our stay and have bookedagain for August.”

“I have to say, though we had been to many hotels, this definitely tops all. We got a quiet room with all mod com, the breakfast was superb. I am on a special diet and it was no problem to receive gluten free and milk free. The staff was corteous, the swimming pool clean. All in all we were very impressed.”

“Myself, my husband and my 2 children had a wonderful stay at the Abbey Hotel. The staff were all extremely friendly and polite. We ate each night at the hotel and the food was delicious. We all enjoyed the leisure facility. The staff here were lovely too. I have recommended this hotel to my sister and she has booked 2 nights stay. Her daughter thinks she is staying in a princess castle.... She is so excited.”

Rooms were very warm and beds could have been more comfortable. However, kids had a great time and enjoyed their time in the lovely pool. Took a trip to Zipit at Lough Key and to the Arigna Mine on the way home.”

“+ Within walking distance of Roscommon town, gorgeous abbey and nice staff. We were away for my boyfriend's birthday and they left chocolates and a bottle of prosecco in our room. - There is no heating!! Our room was very cold. -Our shower was hot the first day but on the second day it was barely warm. -The restaurant food was not very nice and is extremely overpriced. Poor service from the waitresses also. In fairness to the staff they did take the soup off our bill when we complained! -The plugs in our room were quite inaccessible. -There is no mini-fridge which would be a welcome addition to keep water chilled. -The decor is also a bit outdated. Overall, it did not seem like a 4 star standard hotel.”

“Very nice stay at the abbey. It is a nice and relaxed hotel and the staff are very good. There is lovely lawn to sit out on as well if the sun is shining and it backs on to the well preserved ruins of an old Abbey. The hotel is a short walk from Roscommon town and a short drive from Lough Ree. Great pint of Guinness as well!”

“I would like to write this review because both my Husband Micheal and myself were so superbly impressed with this hotel. Our first impression was how spotlessly clean every inch of this hotel was from the reception to the toilets, to the eating areas and the bedrooms were immaculate. We found the hospitality and the welcome second to none. I am a vegan and the chef and waiting staff catered for my every need in an effortless and efficient way. My husband who is particular about the quality of the food said the meat, the vegetables and the desserts were of an outstanding quality. We had our almost 3 year old daughter with us and we spent tons of time in the leisure center which was immaculately clean, warm and so much fun for her. we would recommend this hotel to anyone who loves a quality stay away be it for a night or two away will be more than impressed with this family friendly hotel. “Stayed here for 2 nights. Reception area, lounge & bar all very nice. Rooms could do with modernisation although they were very clean. Spacious room and bathroom. Leisure centre very good and also very clean. Lovely staff, in particular the young barman (I can't remember his name but I believe he was Polish). Less than 10 minute stroll to the town. Nice pub across the road if you want a change of scenery - Bear an Raille/The Railway Bar. Food in restaurant and bar very good. I didn't eat in the carvery but it was very busy for a Monday & Tuesday so the food must be good.”

“Stayed for two nights and totally enjoyed our stay. We just wanted to get away sit and chill . This hotel an 18th century hotel has kept as hard as it is its oldness, despite the younger generation wanting the modern box look. Sorry but if you want time out , top class food good selection of beverages this is the spot. Staff were excellent in every way. We got the delux suite and man talk about going back in time. Wooden sash windows coving original and four poster bed with carved poles. Tv didnt have many stations as i watch the news channels and discovery , but i wasnt there for tv. Were definately going back as these hotels are hard to find. Check out the stained glass throughout the hotel as it tells a story. I figured it out but it took a while. History. clue J Rochfort”

“We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Abbey. Room was clean and staff very friendly. There was a quiet and calm atmosphere which suited us for a relaxing break. Food was also nice, but we felt the breakfast could have been hotter. Overall though, we had a lovely break and would definitely visit again.”

“I spent a fantastic 3 day mid-term break at the Abbey Hotel. I booked a large family room which was spacious enough for Mum, two boys and Granny. The food was very good, great selection at the buffet breakfast, carvery available at lunchtime and bar food or restaurant menus at night. Kids' club was run each evening with a dinner option available, huge thanks to Emer who the kds loved. The only let down is the very dim lighting in the bedrooms and the lack of family changing facilities for the lovely pool, it doesn't feel quite right bringing boys into the ladies' changing room. But overall, a lovely hotel with friendly staff in a nice quiet spot.”

“Let me start by saying that the staff were absolutely amazing in this hotel. They were so helpful, courteous and accomodating. The hotel although lovely was quite dated. The duvet covers on the bed were grubby and dirty with pen on them. The walls had several black marks and scrapes. The beds weren't the most comfortable either. I feel the fantastic staff make it a 4 star hotel however if it wasn't for the staff I would only give the hotel a 3 star.”

Lovely old fashioned room but bed was small and too hot so not a great nights sleep. Pool area was lovely and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Would definitely return and to visit Artisan Bakery across the road.”

“We stayed in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon for a two-night break with our daughter. From the start the staff were exceptionally nice, helpful and friendly. The hotel is set in a lovely quiet area of the town, even though it is just a short walk from the town itself. While it says 4 Star, it really was more a shabby chic 4 star as it was a bit worn and dishevelled! However, the bar and lounge was just so comfortable, we spent most of our time just eating, drinking and talking in the lounge. The bar food was so good we didn't get a chance to try the restaurant. The staff were very accommodating and really very helpful without being intrusive. It really is a lovely hotel and we will definitely be back soon!”

“I booked this for my Mum and Dad. When we arrived they were upgraded to the executive suite which was a lovely surprise. The room was very spacious and Dad said 'you could have fitted 4 in the bed'!!! It was comfortable and clean. The breakfast in the morning was lovely too. Staff were friendly and approachable I'm sure they would definitely stay here again. The deal with Lidl was great as I believe booking through the hotel is a little dearer. All in all a great stay and highly recommended.”

“Excellent swimming pool which my son and myself used twice. The staff were friendly and the hotel is a good base to explore the surrounding areas. But we had two issues, when we went to get our fry at breakfast the sausages looked like they spent the weekend in the Arigna mines......they were black and burnt to a crisp (also no beans on display...you shouldn't have to ask). Also the beds were too hard unless you needed extreme support for your spine.....not a great nights sleep. This hotel should be a 3 Star not a 4 star.”

“My friend and I recently booked this hotel last minute as we needed a break away from the city and things could not have worked out better! For people that need a stress free no fuss weekend then the abbey hotel is ideal! We got the train from Dublin and were plesently surprised when we got off at the train station to find the hotel was a mere stones throw away. Ideal if your not driving! When we arrived we were greeted warmly by the friendly and efficent staff. Our room was lovely all though I found the telly to be rather out dated.. our remote didn't work properly but we were able to access more stations by using the controls on the actualy telly! The room had all the necessities one would need although I would highly recomend bringing your own hair dryer as the one in the bathroom would take any one hours to dry their hair( the one's in the leisure center are marginaly better). The leisure center has what you'd expect, pool sauna,steam room, plunge pool gym etc and was very quite when we went down each day which we loved! Make sure you have a swiming hat with you as they are strict on not letting people in without them, although they sell them at the reception if you forget your's. We got the deal via lidl breaks.ie(140e for the two of us for 2 nights) which included breakfast..which no one could fault!Tthey had everything any one could need to start off the day..no shortage of food and you could eat at ease which was a great way to start the day! On the 2nd night we had our meal in the actual hotel and I'm only sorry that we didn't try it out there on the first night! The meal was amazing and well priced! we both had steak which came with everything you can think of and had us practically bursting at the seams..we didn't dare try desert for fear of totally over doing it but admired the creations that others around us were receiving! The staff were very helpful and helped us map out the day around us giving us suggestions about where to go and making sure to get us a well priced taxi as we did not have a car with us. I also liked the fact that you could have a DVD player (free of charge) upon request just in case the night time telly bored you.. we were well prepared and brought a selection of DVDs with us something I recommend you do as they only have a small selection of children's one's available. We were both very happy with this weekend away in this hotel and would highly recommend it whether you need a break on your own or just a peaceful get away with a friend or your partner.”

“the picture they have of the front of the hotel looks like a castle which is lovely and i thought the rest of the building would look like this to but it doesnt it is very deceiving as there is an extenion on the side that are the rooms and it looks out of place as we were driving up to it. its a lovely hotel ,rooms are lovely and clean, pool area is a bit plain and it is not for children”

“Myself, my husband and 2 boys booked in to this hotel over the Easter ( 2011) and we had a really lovely stay. The hotel is very family friendly and our family room was good and spacious and clean. The food in the restaurant was very good - however, I do think that the hotel need to look at their food pricing as it would be good to see a good value Table De Hote menu. I dropped a star from the rating as the leisure centre needs an injection of cash and also, I think the hotel is really a good 3 star hotel as opposed to a 4 star hotel. All in all - a calm relaxing break and we would return.,”
