Joseph scored 5 / 5 on 11/03/2022

Spent 3 great nights at this hotel. the staff were so nice, polite and very helpful. The food was excellent and well presented. the room was very clean and tidy and the room cleaning staff were so friendly. The only downside was the room heating, we like to relax in the room after travelling during the day but the heating didn't come on till late in the evening and the room was very cold (for two auld ones). Wouldn't matter if the weather was warmer. Apart from that a great hotel and we will be back again.

Big asset for this hotel is it's friendly, efficient, helpful, pleasant, welcoming staff, (starting with receptionist) who keep this hotel in pristine condition, serving delicious lunch, evening meal, snacks & breakfast with a lot of choice, both hot and cold. Ideal location opposite Salthill promenade, beside bus stop into Galway city. Two free car parks are so convenient. big thank you to all hotel staff, we will be staying there again & again.

Had a lovely stay in the salt hill hotel. The room was perfect, the breakfast food was very nice and had loads of choice. Also got dinner in the prom restaurant which was excellent. The bar also had lovely cocktails. Definitely would go again.

Vanessa scored 3 / 5 on 12/12/2021

I really like this hotel and only scored it 3 as the I was dissatisfied with the bar. The bar was very dirty and it took very long for a baby bowl to arrive and the food was not very good. The staff were extremely slow and the bar was not busy at all. On a positive note the restaurant was fab and the staff could not do enough. The food was amazing. The cleaning staff were excellent and so helpful and the receptionist was great too. The breakfast staff were amazing and really looked after us. A lovely stay but the bar let my review down.

Mary scored 4 / 5 on 02/12/2021

Lovely hotel, lovely facilities. We used a different site to book our break, and our booking had not been confirmed through no fault of the hotel, Peggy on reception was so helpful and upgraded us to a Seaview room, which was fabulous. Breakfast was top quality. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Clare scored 4 / 5 on 24/11/2021

Great hotel. The staff, the food, the decor and the setting were all wonderful. I was disappointed that my request for an upgrade and willingness to pay extra was ignored and also that we had to wait until 3.45pm to get access to our room when check in is 3pm. I felt like the poor relations and it seemed having booked with mini breaks, we were at the end of the line, despite having checked in well before other guests.

Josephine scored 5 / 5 on 23/11/2021

Was a short break with friends. From the moment you step throught the door there is a lovely welcome from staff. Rooms were great. Dined in bar and restaurant and the food and service was great. Looking forward to our next break there.

Jonathon scored 4 / 5 on 21/11/2021

Paula scored 4 / 5 on 16/11/2021

Hotel was lovely, and the staff was lovely, but they were slightly disorganised. I understand the staff are young but it might be a good idea for management to do a training day with them

Excellent food and service

Ilona scored 4 / 5 on 09/11/2021

Excellent hotel with ideal location on salthill seafront. Rooms good standard and well maintained leisure centre. Food was a bit disappointing though and the price for a very mediocre burger in the bar extortionate. I was charged 18.50 for a burger and for that price I was expecting an exceptional one. It unfortunately was not..however I would return to the hotel as everything else was great but would not eat in the bar again on the next visit.

Colm scored 5 / 5 on 08/11/2021

Really enjoyed our stay. Great to see breakfast buffet now in use again.

Beautiful hotel, fantastic location. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food amazing.

Gerry scored 5 / 5 on 21/10/2021

A really nice hotel, we stayed here on a number of occasions, we love the location and the atmosphere in the hotel. The rooms are specious with all the required amenities, the leisure area and swimming pool is spacious with 25m pool, sauna, steam room jacuzzi and children's pool, the leisure staff were as usual very welcoming, unlike the check - in staff member at reception, who could have been having a bad day. we checked in on Sunday at 15.00pm. Only introduced to Lidl breaks recently by a work colleague, it will be my first port of call in the future. Thank you Lidl

Joseph scored 5 / 5 on 18/10/2021

We spent a midweek break here and on arrival the receptionist Peggy was very welcoming and pleasant explaining all the facilities available and their locations. the rooms were very clean and tidy and the food in both the restaurant and the bar was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location suited us perfectly. We are looking forward to our next break. I would highly recommend a visit to this hotel.

Colm scored 5 / 5 on 17/10/2021

Really enjoyed our stay. Great to see breakfast buffet now in use again.

Robert scored 4 / 5 on 17/10/2021

A little delay in checking in as short staffed which was explained to us by antonio. Room 224 was spacious and clean with garden and side sea view. Breakfast excellent with good variety and fresh tasting. Dinner goof. All staff friendly and attentive. Leisure centre very good with two pools and large gym. Will return.

Trevor scored 5 / 5 on 14/10/2021

What could have been a disaster, was rescued by the receptionist at the Salthill. He could not find our booking on the system. Eventually he discovered that it had been booked for later in the week and for 2 nights instead of one. Thankfully he was able to find us a room, especially since we arrived late in the evening.

Stephen scored 5 / 5 on 06/10/2021

Great deal on Lidl Breaks. My family booked a room with a different site but my one was a lot cheaper and included breakfast. Also while I personally was only there to sleep, my room was larger with nicer views than other members of my family! So figured I won all around with this. Bar staff were so friendly and excellent and always ready to get us another drink and the leisure centre was pretty cool as well.

Anita scored 5 / 5 on 12/09/2021

We love this hotel the only thing was we hadnt got a room with a view but cant fault it very clean and if you needed anything they help you out at reception we will be back before xmas

Mary scored 3 / 5 on 01/07/2021

Enjoyed our 2 night break but disappointed overall with the standard of food and service. Rooms are also very dated. Alot of friendly young staff but nobody managing them, service very slow, waited over a hour after ordering our dinner, tables not cleaned or cleared of glasses and crockery, had to go find staff to do so. Cooked breakfasts very average, food overcooked. It's a pity because it's a lovely hotel and the situation is ideal along prom but certainly not 4 star

Gillian scored 5 / 5 on 17/06/2021

This hotel was a real gem to find. The location was beautiful, right on the strand. Being able to use the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi was a real treat. Spotless hotel. Very attentive staff and the meal in the restaurant couldn't have been better value. Will stay here again on another trip to Galway.

Mrs scored 3 / 5 on 22/10/2020

The room was lovely but a certain member of staff, front of house in the bar/restaurant and at breakfast was curt to the point of rudeness on more than one occasion which was unnecessary and coloured the stay. Disappointing as the location and everything else was fine.

David scored 5 / 5 on 08/10/2020

We had such a lovely few days away in Salthill recently and I would definitely recommend this hotel the staff were lovely and very accommodating throughout it was lovely and clean and anything we needed never was a hassle. The only downfall was the cold air didn’t seem to really work in our room so it was very warm, otherwise lovely stay and we will certainly be back

Every single aspect of this hotel was without fault of any kind: efficiency of all staff, Covid-19 precautions diligently observed, all-over cleanliness from bedrooms to public areas (restaurants, bar, leisure centre). Strongly recommended.

Seán scored 2 / 5 on 02/09/2020

Not up to the standard that it was when we stayed 4 years ago, No availability in the leisure facilities, slow staff at dinner, Room was very small and the bathroom smelled off, no fridge in the room, no drinking water in the room, really not a 4-star hotel anymore in my opinion. Staff were very pleasant and friendly for the most part and the rooms were cleaned every day although we did not receive a fresh set of shampoo and shower gel.

Majella scored 4 / 5 on 01/09/2020

Stayed at the hotel recently, the food was fabulous, the hotel coped well with all the restrictions & had hand sanitizers at various locations in the hotel...Breakfast was served at the table which saved on the queues it worked quite well...Location is fabulous & you can sit out on the deck & enjoy the view....Can't wait to return...

Barbara scored 4 / 5 on 01/09/2020

Second visit to this hotel and very happy with what it has to offer. Good breakfast, pleasant bar with good food options and very comfortable beds in bright room. Downside - very slow service in bar on one of our evenings as had to remind wait staff of our order after delay of 45 minutes - despite booking 10am breakfast there was a queue of about 50 people when we arrived at 9.50 (aware that difficulty because of Covid but why insist on reservation if restaurant can't handle that)

Love this Hotel have been going there few times a year for the past 20 odd years. One very personal comment we have is that the Breakfast Manager Dominic always greets and welcomes us back we find this very touching of him. As the only time we see him is breakfast.

Maeve scored 5 / 5 on 28/08/2020

Travelled to Salthill Hotel for a mini break. I would highly recommend this Hotel for food and drinks. I booked this on lidl breaks the room was nice but basic and the overview not so nice looking out onto a dirty old corrugated shed. However it would not put me off returning to this hotel again thoroughly enjoyed the stay very relaxing during these strangest of times .

Josephine scored 5 / 5 on 27/08/2020

I had the most amazing experience with the team in the salthill Hotel. From arrival to departure every need was met. A room with a view overlooking the sea..wow... Breakfast was excellent...service very quick and any request was dealt with a smile. As I have worked in hospitality for the last 30 years I would be critical but my experience was exceptional. Our evening meal was delicious...part of the package in the dining room. I have to thank Jennifer the dining room manager...she knows her job..and was so nice and approachable. 10 out of 10...excellent. Thank you Josephine and ollie. X.

Hotel staff very friendly hotel very busy room lovely big clean and nice view great value and lovely atmosphere around only fault main toilets very dirty went to reception twice one day after other and found this very unsettling As a lot of people using only one drier working no loo paper and some other things I would mention here but I did report and hopefully they will get in top of this

Had a very pleasant stay at the Salthill Hotel in Galway. Food was lovely and staff very helpful. Would recommend this hotel

Ann scored 3 / 5 on 15/08/2020

Food was lovely but service needs to be improved. It was evident that there was a lack of good training and supervision. At dinner waiter had to be reminded that seasonal vegetables should have accompanied main course. At breakfast one breakfast arrived ten minutes before other and had to ask again. Pool lovely.

Rita scored 4 / 5 on 09/08/2020

Lovely hotel and friendly and helpful staff. It would be beneficial to guests if therE was a coffee dock set up in lobby area for guests to buy teas and coffees especially with the Covid restrictions in place as bar is very busy.

Collette scored 5 / 5 on 08/08/2020

The moment we stepped into hotel hand sanitizer were visible and clear signs on floor for 2m distance and big airy lobby made us so comfortable .the reception couldn’t be nicer and made sure to check our times for dinner and breakfast . On our first morning for breakfast there was a que but not that long . Waitress was very pleasant and made sure we had everything and check back with us if we needed anything else . It is unusually time we face at the moment and I have to hand it to the staff and waitress there workload has increased and trying to get everyone sitting down for breakfast , lunch or dinner having to clean reset table and take table orders is a lot to take on . We always felt safe and food was fantastic .we will definitely be back.

Owen scored 3 / 5 on 07/08/2020

Hotel & bedroom clean and comfortable, restaurant, breakfast dining area & bar was chaotic. In the bar we were over charged by €11and €32 in the restaurant. The staff seemed inexperienced at times it seemed like faulty towers I blame management.

Hotel beautiful and food excellent staff great. We had breakfast in our room and we were changed €10 per day which I thought with the pandemic was bad . Mobile phone coverage and WiFi very bad & some TV stations with no sound. For these reasons I would not recommend it.

The hotel and the food was fab, there was two big down falls though, no1. Staff wouldn't be the nicest or the most helpful, and everything seemed like an issue. no2. We were not informed that the hot tub , sauna and steam-room were not able for use although i has asked before arrival and we were told the leisure center was ' Fully operational' other then that it was a lovely stay!

I normally love staying in this hotel but this time upon arrival we were disappointed that there were no kettles in the room. It did not really make sense that there is no tea or coffee making in the room when a remote is touch by everyone the same as a kettle. We also had to que 20 minutes going into breakfast and then wait 25 minutes for our breakfast as it was a busy time. I understand the hotel is doing it’s best at this time but in hotels where I am living in Meath it is not as strict and functions better.

Hotel is fine -location beautiful..we stayed during Covid 19 restrictions which was very difficult and therefore not so enjoyable..This was not the fault of the hotel but our own for going away when such restrictions were in place. We left a day early as a result of this but the hotel kindly gave us some money back which was a lovely gesture. The staff were polite and helpful-I would recommend this hotel but not until everything is back to normal x

Food excellent. Room far too warm, cannot open window, aircon blocked at 17°. Understaffed and most staff young and untrained. Long queues for dining room. My partner had a bad fall in the bathroom. Tiles not nonslip & bathmat useless. Reported at checkout but got no follow up call. He was badly bruised & it ruined our stay.

Just had a very enjoyable weekend break in the Salthill hotel which as always was fantastic. Fantastic staff, clean as a whistle and great precautions taken in this uncertain time of Covid-19. Food is of a very high standard. Big shout out to staff member "Brian" at the breakfast for the "perfect poached egg". He will know what I mean. Fantastic staff member and ye are so luck to have him.. We will be back before the summer is out and looking forward to it already

Fab hotel, food was gorgeous, service great, very efficient, all social distancing and safety measures in place. Staff working so so hard , (and must be roasting with masks on). Just book your meal times before you go. Pool also has to be booked in advance..We weren’t using it this time, but I think it was quite busy. Location is amazing. Salthill prom is fab, and short walk/taxi up to city. 10/10 for everything

Not happy with this hotel. When we booked in we were told by a very abrupt receptionist that we could not have a drink in lobby even though other guests were doing so. Starters on first night dinner cold. Told by girl in bar we could have 3 drinks in bar after dinner but were not permitted. Bar manager extremely abrupt and treated his staff and customers like dirt. asked for grilled tomato for breakfast and did not receive. overall terrible experience and would not recommend this hotel. My husband was left standing at bar for 15 minutes before been served and staff just ignored him until he made a fuss. more staff needed at this hotel with proper personalities

Tony scored 4 / 5 on 04/07/2020

Overall good and most staff very friendly. A couple of small criticisms. We were on a deal which included dinner. When seated and given the menus we asked if that was the correct one for us given that our package included dinner and was told it was. I ordered steak and was charged an €7.50 even though I wasn’t told beforehand. Likewise our package was a three course dinner but we weren’t offered desert or tea / coffee and had to ask for the latter. On a more serious matter in the bar we noticed no staff going around the tables offering service and also people going to the bar to order drinks, all of which shouldn’t happen given Covid 19. With the exception of the bar staff all of the members of staff were very friendly and professional and we put the above matters down to everything being new for staff and difficult to cope with the new regulations. One other suggestion is the door on the first floor should be left open so that guests don’t have to touch the handle which at the moment is unavoidable. We wish you the best of luck with the hotel business and are well aware of the massive difficulties you are currently facing.

Excellent hotel with a fantastic leisure centre, full 25 metres. Staff are brilliant. I mentioned to receptionist when checking in that I had a hospital appointment at 9:30 in the morning for which I needed to fast and we wouldn't be back until about 10:30. She said breakfast finished at 10 but she would arrange for a full breakfast to be kept for us - and she did exactly that! Only slight downside for us was that there was a food fair on and the hotel was very busy but that's a personal preference thing, we prefer a bit of quiet, others prefer a busy place!

A&a scored 4 / 5 on 14/09/2016

Stayed here for one night recently. Hotel was comfortable and well maintained. The dinner at night was excellent and the breakfast was good. Our only concern was that the staffing at breakfast seemed to be far short of the numbers required and they seemed to be under great pressure

Padraic scored 5 / 5 on 02/09/2016

Excellent location, across the road from the beach and diving boards. I cannot fault the dinners & breakfast The pool facilities are great. Bar/Lounge very comfortable and relaxing. However when there was no live music, the in-house stereo was loud, making conversation difficult.

Stayed in this hotel from 28/03/16,until 31/03/16 on a 3 night package with LIDLBreaks,at booking I requested an upgrade to a Seaview Room if possible and I would pay the difference when settling my bill at the Hotel,A phone call to the hotel a week later confirmed my booking was good and when asked about my request for the Seaview room this was also confirmed, much to my delight,as I had stayed in the hotel before and knew how superb the view across Galway Bay is from these rooms, We arrived at about 3-20 pm on the day and were greeted by to very friendly and welcoming Receptionists, who told us that our room was ready and that we had the same room we had previously stayed in,this delighted my wife and myself, the registration at arrival was easy and we were quickly on our way to our room and a bit of a rest and freshen up after such a long journey from County Antrim, the rest of our stay there was very good, and house keeping and room service were excellent, there was bottled water and chocolates provided as a welcome, showing a great start to out stay,in all our stay was very good and will certainly repeat this wonderful break in the near future,I have no Hesitation in recommending this Hotel and it,s staff to anyone looking for a good Galway location for a short or long break,,Car Parking is excellent at this hotel, with good Blue Badge spaces, both at ground level and in the under ground carpark........I will return.......

Had a 2 night family stay with our son. Will definitely be back. Hotel is lovely right on the seafront/salthill promenade. Staff were very friendly and efficient and nothing to much bother especially when our son got sick and needed a doctor. Food was good as was breakfast. Our room was a tad small for a family room and the only downside was there was no bath in the bathroom just a walk in shower. Some rooms apparently have baths some have showers. Overall we had a great stay and will definitely be back. We didn't get to use the pool or leisure center as our son was sick but will do next time we are staying.

Our dinner in the Prom restaurant was lovely, good choices and well presented. There was music in the bar later, enjoyed by a good crowd. Breakfast was the full Irish with the usual extras. we used the pool and sauna facilities which are all 4 star. Its a lovely walk via the promenade into Galway (40mins) and a regular bus service will take you back.

Loved the location, the rooms, the cleaning, bar and restaurant staff. Couldn;t praise them enough. Only issue I had was the attitude of the Reception and Reservation staff. A bunch of my friends and I (all women) stayed there and they had similar experiences with the Reception. Reception were often abrupt and rude . They seemed to have forgotten they are the face of the hotel and made us all uncomfortable to approach them. I travel a lot in Ireland and abroad and this is the first bad experience I've ever had with Reception in any hotel. Not sure I would stay there for that reason. Other than that, great place

Had a 2 night stay with evening meal, I would highly recommend this hotel the food in both the resturant and bar was great, the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms very comfortable, the pool was great and they had music in the bar at night over all a relaxing break and would be planning to stay there again.(would have stayed a third night but they were fully booked).

We had a fantastic weekend at the Salthill hotel, it overlooks the bay and is near enough to walk to the city. We went on the bed, breakfast and evening meal offer and it was fantastic value for €49 per night each. The food and service were excellent even though the hotel was really busy. On the second night we ate in the bar as the restaurant was full for the time we wanted. This was a bit of an issue as they wanted to charge us extra for eating in the bar which didn't make sense as it was still a two course meal we had. However, on checking out the staff at reception agreed that this shouldn't be the case and rectified this for us. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely Hotel with great facilities. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the food in the restaurant was lovely. Great location. Would happily stay here again.

we stayed at the salthill hotel on a special midweek rate which included an evening meal. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and most of the staff were very friendly and competent. Breakfast was very good and offered plenty of choice. Our meal was very nice and the restaurant staff were delightful. Very efficient and good fun. The location of the hotel is great, with the promenade across the road, and there is a bus stop at the front of the hotel, if you wish to go into the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel , and will return there myself.

Room was OK and bathroom was OK .my problem was with the shower water kept going scalding hot to very cold not a thermostatic valve. Will not stay again.

My friend and I stayed Saturday night (Jan 24). From beginning to end the stay was a pleasure, from the friendly reception staff to the accommodating night porters, the service we received was excellent. The room was lovely and the guest name on the home screen on the tv was a lovely touch. The room and bathroom were lovely, with lots of hot water in the bathroom and an excellent shower as well. Breakfast was served until 11 am Sunday morning which was very suitable after a long night in the function room. Would recommend this hotel highly and hope to go back again.

I've been here before on full price and it was a different experience to coming here on a lidl break. The room location on the lidl break was much smaller, reached via a separate smaller lift off the main foyer and much narrower corridors, and the window was beside a kitchen vent. The receptionist checking us in was friendly until she spotted it was a lidl break booking then seemed cold. She spent the rest of the booking procedure making unrelated phone calls to other staff members. The rest of the staff were impeccably polite and friendly, particularly the blonde lady at reception who checked us out. The food was excellent and the room was quite nice. I would certainly go back again overall.

Great hotel, excellent facilities. Breakfast staff in the restaurant were excellent and couldn't do enough for us. The lady doing the meeting and greeting when we arrived was very chatty and so nice. We tried to extend our stay for an extra night, but couldn't afford the price offered. We understand we were on a mid-week package and it was a very good rate and so couldn't complain. its perfectly understandable as the holel only had a few rooms left (it was a Friday night we were looking for). The hotel was perfectly clean, neat and tiday. THe music in the bar on the Thursday night was a funky jazz band and they were excellent also. If you are looking to stay there, I would highly recommend this hotel. Kind Regrads, T&N

Hi, we stayed in the Salthill hotel for two nights BB and 1 evening meal. From when we checked in to when we left it was lovely. We had dinner on the first night in the Resturant and I have to say the food and service was beautiful. My son loved the swimming pool and I also did too. Our room was very clean and we had a double bed and a pull out bed and my 3 year old loved it. The bar was very relaxing and the food and service was very good also. We are hoping to go back there again in October for our wedding anniversary. The only down side to our holiday was that the weather was not very good but it was an excuse to stay around the hotel which was very relaxing and the staff were all very nice. I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you for a lovely stay.

lovely hotel in a great location. Rooms are nice and great breakfast buffet. Food is good in the Prom restaurant but the staff aren't the best there. Our hotel room was on the first floor and we could hear the hand dryers from the bathrooms downstairs and the vents were noisy enough. It didn't bother us too much as we were out for most of the day.Over all it was a nice hotel and I would recommend it.

We have stayed at this hotel many times. The staff are friendly. Beds and bedrooms are comfortable. Breakfasts are enormous and tasty. The only thing wrong this time was we were on the 4th floor and during the night I could hear the air conditioning units above us. It wasn't loud enough to wake you, but loud enough to stop you sleeping for some time. Next time I will insist we are situated on any floor except the 4th floor.

This Break was really good value, but i upgraded to a Seaview Room and it was well worth it I,d recommend anyone booking The Salthill Hotel on this kind of break to do the same as the room was superb in size and comfort and the View truly great. The hotel Staff were very helpful in all departments, and the dinner that was part of the deal was very good, both in service and quality,if there was a downside to any part of this break,it would be the check in.We arrived at 3-35 pm and had to wait an hour for our room to be ready, there were others that arrived after us who also had to wait, but the Hotel supplied Tea and Coffee and biscuits to help wile away the time, that said it did not detract one bit on our stay there,I,d book this break again in the blink of an eye,but upgrade to the Seaview Room,we were in room 226 and try for that next time.Car parking was excellent.I,ll surely use Lidl Breaks again as the really are value for money...

Stayed here for two nights with my boyfriend mid-week and we really loved our stay. The room was spacious and really well furnished. We would have rathered a bath in the room over a shower, though. The staff were always helpful, carrying our bags up to the room and then letting us leave them there after checkout as our train didn't leave until that night. Facilities were great. Lovely saltwater pool. In a great location in relation to the beach and Salthill village, with a regular bus into Eyre Square. Overall, would highly reccommend this hotel to couples and families, we adored our stay!

Siobhán & Chris - Offaly - 7th September 2013 We had a great 1 night stay in this beautiful hotel last week. The bedroom was lovely, bathroom very spacious and great power shower. Stunning sea view. Leisure centre was first class, would go again purely for the hydra pool and hot tub! We had dinner in the lounge followed by a few drinks while listening to a great band. There was a great buzz about the place. I did not want to leave. Breakfast was delicious and the staff very attentive. I loved this hotel and will definitely go again. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay most enjoyable.

Hotel is set in a lovely location right on the Prom. On entering the hotel lobby, we were greeted with a warm welcome. Informed that the event that was taking place in the hotel would finish at 1am, which it did. Bedroom in need of revamp, as there was no air-conditioning & in result had to leave the window open. I asked for sea view but got a big stone wall outside my window & there was a fan in operation for the kitchens which was not turned off until after midnight which wasn't very relaxing as you could not sleep. Breakfast was very appetising & filling. Staff were very friendly. weather was beautiful. Nice place to be on a sunny day. Bedroom 2 stars.

The Hotel itself has a fantastic location on the promenade in Salthill. The Hotel Reception, Dining Room, Restaurant, Bar and Leisure Centre were quite impressive and spotless but the standard of hygiene in the bedroom was very disappointing therefore losing one star in my review. The bathroom had mould on the ceiling (possible from a leak in the overhead bedroom), the walls opposite the bed were very dirty and could have done with a clean or paint and a valance sheet on the bed had a large stain on it (giving the impression that it wasn't changed). If the bedrooms had a make over I would give the Salthill Hotel 4 stars until then it only deserves 2 stars. Linda

Had a great one night stay here with my daughter last Thursday night. Check in staff very helpful, efficient and polite, but same could not be said of bar staff that night. Food we got that evening was great and portions exceptionally large - but level of service for drinks in the bar was very poor and the bar was not busy at all. Room was okay but could do with a bit of updating and bathroom tidy with only shower no bath. Leisure facilities great and location brilliant however the real let down was the bar staff on the night we were there.

Just back from a weekend at this hotel, Location is top notch. Right on The Prom in Salthill. Easy access into Galway city. The lobby and bar area are very nice. Checkin was swift with no problems. Room was small but clean,Bathroom was clean with a great shower but could really do with a fan in there. Takes ages for steam to clear after a shower. Walls are paper thin, You could hear conversations from both sides. The hotel was very busy, Weddings on both days We were there. We had lunch in the bar after arriving, Food was ok. Portion sizes were huge. Lounge Girl was lovely and service by her was very good. Grainne was her name but later that night the same could not be said about the barmen, They were shocking. You had to wait forever for a drink. Breakfast was good with plenty of everything and service here was also good. Overall I enjoyed My stay and would probably come back. I would have given the hotel a 3 and a half star rating if possible but certainly not a 4.

Have stayed in this hotel 4 or 5 times always enjoyed our stay until this time, when we arrived there was no room booked for us this was due to the fact that lidl breaks had not forwarded our booking . The hotel was fully booked out however after some time we were given a room. We were very disappointed as the room was small and the bathroom was tiny, there was no hot water. The staff are very friendly and helpful . It was not the fault of the hotel but lidl breaks as this was our first time booking through them it would make me think before booking through them again. Everything else was fine, breakfast was lovely and bar food excellent. Star rating purely reflecting the room we had, friends of ours was staying there as well and their room was excellent.

Blackrock Cafe & Bar offers a lovely retreat to people watch and relax, while the food served in the Prom restaurant is really good. We had a lovely meal there on the second night as part of our stay and were not disappointed. Great location too! We have just returned from our second stay in the Salthill Hotel - we stayed there previously in December 2012 and decided to go back to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We find the hotel excellent in every way - the reception staff are friendly and helpful and welcomming. The waitressess and housekeepers always smiling and friendly also. We were staying on the morning of Pancake Tuesday and when I remarked to one of the waitressess that I was surprised that there were no pancakes for breakfast (not that I needed them!!) she said I will mention it to the chef. She returned in a few minutes and said sorry there were no pancakes. However a few minutes later she returned again and said the chef said he would cook some pancakes for me!! Very shortly she returned with a plate of delicious fluffy light pancakes specially for me!! Now, how good a service is that!! The corner front room we had was very spacious and clean - the bed was very comfortable - all in all we had a delightful stay and will recommend the hotel to friends and family.

We stayed in the Salthill Hotel over Christmas and had a wonderful time .The facilities were excellent ie Leisure centre,on the beach, entertainment. The staff were very courteous at all times.Galway city is only a short bus ride or a good stroll away.A good atmosphere in the arty Latin quarter on a lazy Saturday afternoon strolling around and having oysters and Guinness is what i call heaven.Fantastic walk on the prom to clear the head on the Sunday morning followed by lunch in Morans on the weir in Kilcolgan with Galway bay mussels washed down with a Guinness ...Have you booked yet.

This Hotel is just fantastic and should be rated as a four star Hotel. We had the most amazing time and will go back again this year. Firstly the staff were excellent but the Hotel itself has great facilities too. The swimming pools (2 pools) are great and the resturant served fantastic food. The bar was huge and was very nicely decorated as was the reception and breakfast area. The Hotel has the advantage on being opposite the Promanade in Salthill so is great for walks by the sea. There is a lot to do and see in Salthill but if you feel like heading into the city centre without your car, there is a bus service that stops outside the Hotel too. Overall rating 5/5 +++++ Linda

Had a wedding there this christmas. Hotel reception area lovely, bar very nice, food at the wedding very good, service attentive at wedding and in reception too. Rooms basic enough. Not as "pretty" as photo on website and two people wouldnt stand in the bathroom as it is very economical in size. But beds comfy, overall a nice stay and would go back.

My husband and I stayed in The Salthill Hotel on 3 day break offer - 7th, 8th and 9th Dec 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - had lovely spacious room on 4th floor overlooking the promenade - lovely bathroom, comfortable bed with good quality bedding. Excellent breakfast choices - no one should leave the dinning-room hungry. Even though there was a wedding party on the Sat night the hotel was surprisingly quiet throughout the night. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly - we have recommended the hotel to several people on our return. R and J Boyd

Had a very pleasant stay at the salthill hotel last wknd. Two twin rooms were booked and we got very large sea view rooms which were comfortable warm clean and very spacious. The staff were friendly and the breakfast which we had served to our room was nice. All up it was an enjoyable stay. Couldn't fault it.

The Salthill Hotel is a lovely place to stay. The staff are very friendly and approachable. the room we stayed in was bright and immaculately clean, as was the bathroom and the bed was very comfy!! The breakfast buffet was fantastic. There was an excellent choice of various foods to satisfy even the most fussy eaters and the quality was excellent. We had dinner in the Prom restaurant, and the food there was excellent also. I would highly recommend the Salthill Hotel as a base to stay on a break to Galway.

Stayed here 3 nights 27-29 Nov '12. On 1st morning had a cold shower as the boiler had broken down. Room had a small window with a view of an internal court yard. The matteress was collasping at the edge midway between top and bottom which resulted in a slope in the bed to the outside edge. The bar was large and nicely decorated but there was a cold draught by the windows. They need to close the curtains to keep the place warm. The fitness centre was very good, breakfast was top notch and the staff were excellent. If I was to go back I would definitely have to have a room with a sea view and a bed with a good matteress.

Stayed in the Salthill Hotel for one night.Lovely room-spotlessly clean and very comfortable-with sea view as requested.Fabulous food in the Prom restaurant but service was very slow.Great breakfast the following morning including gorgeous brown bread made on the premises.IThe only downside was we could hear the person in the next room snoring and some noisy wedding guests at 5a.m.!Despite this,I give the hotel five stars for great staff, accommodation, food and location.I will definitely return and have already recommended it to friends. Great hotel and fantastic location. Our room was lovely with a clear sea view - Room 230 for anyone who wants to know! Great buzz in the hotel with a wedding on both nights. Bar is fantastic and hotel staff are very friendly. One thing to note though - my folks were in a room at the side of the hotel (room 220) and there was a lot of noise from a bus/people leaving at 4am in the morning from one of the weddings, engine on bus running constantly for about 20 minutes while people boarded so no sleep there for them. So would recommend anyone ask for a room at the front of the hotel and away from the reception. Otherwise, this is a fantastic hotel, with an excellent leisure centre. Food is lovely too!

My husband, baby daughter and I spent three lovely nights at the Salthill Hotel in September. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The bar and restaurant are lovely with a great view of the Salthill promenade. We had food in the bar on our first night and ate in the restaurant the following two nights and the food was great in both. We were very happy with the breakfast buffet, good quality food and always hot. The leisure centre was amazing, clean and spacious. We were very happy with the size of our room - plenty of space for the travel cot. It was located just above reception and whilst there was a little bit of noise from coaches on occassion it didn't last very long and we didn't find it disruptive. The cleaners came in each day of our stay and both cleaned and tidied up, topping up the toiletries too. The hotel is in a great location - a lot closer to Galway city than I thought. We will definitely be recommending it to our friends.

disappointing visit for a four star hotel. staff friendly and helpful. bar food was very fancy and not very nice the two nights we ate there. we also had to have our mattress changed on the second day due to it being so hard which i have never seen done before. no hair dryer in the room either, the rooms were spotless. very busy hotel. if you are looking for a quiet break i wouldn't recommend this hotel

Stayed in this hotel for two nights from 16th Sept. and had a reallly good time. Nicely situated in Salthill, away from the main street and bus stop for Eyre Square just outside the front door. Overall a reallly great stay and will return again in the future. Only complaint was our room was situated over the main entrance and got a bit noisey early in the morning with coach tours leaving. Otherwise a reallly nice hotel

Catherine scored 3 / 5 on 05/09/2012

Really nice hotel, very centrally located but not right in the heart of Salthill which was great. Loads of parking, beautiful leisure centre and rooms were really nice too. They were severely let-down however by the service in the bar on Saturday & Sunday night and also the service in the Prom Restaurant wasn't great. We were there on Saturday for the IronMan comp, there was 14 of us in the bar for dinner on Sat evening. It took 3 attempts (over the space of an hour) to get someone to take an order for food, then the food was 40 minutes coming. There was a wedding on also so we put the delays down to that. On Sunday, we weren't ordering food but it still took ages for anyone to take a drinks order & I heard someone complaining that they were waiting ages to order food. The Prom restaurant was lovely but again, the service wasn't great. It took them a while to take an order. Some of the group got their starters while the rest waited nearly 10 mins - same for the mains and then we were waiting half an hour for desert. The food was all beautiful - both bar food and the restaurant food though the goat's cheese tartlet should be renamed 'caramelised onion with a dot of goat's cheese'! We had lovely service for breakfast on both days, staff were really lovely and interacted really well with the 2 year old child who was with us. Overall, despite the poor service in the evenings, we had a lovely time, would highly recommend the hotel and we will definitely stay there again for next year's IronMan!

I booked two double rooms at this hotel. was really disappointed as the rooms were not near each other. I was really surprised when the rooms were of a different standard. One room was really nice and deserved the 3 star hotel rating. However, the 2ND room was the same standard if not worse as a Travelodge. It was definitely not up to a 3 star standard. This really disappointed me. The hotel bar prices are rip off. Dublin hotel bars would be a lot cheaper than this place. To say the buffet breakfast was a disgrace is an under statement. It was horrible. The bacon and sausages .were burned and dryed up. The beans and eggs the look of them was enough to know not to eat them. They had Wheaten bread and croissants sitting out in baskets. They looked as if people had just put their hands in the baskets and squashed the bread and croissants. Avoided this. The orange juice tasted as if it had been watered down, as it tasted like diluting orange. We ordered brown bread toast for 4 people. We were horrified to.notice that our toast was blue moulded. I complained and was told that the bread was fresh. I said if the bread was fresh it would not be mouldy. I was then told the bread was one day out of date. I think this is a disgrace to serve stale bread in an hotel. I wouldn't eat mouldy bread at home and do not expect.to be served this in. Hotel, and hope I don't notice. After complaining we got the breakfast free. we didn't eat much breakfast as the poor quality we seen on display, we were turned off completely. A real haven for bacteria. Really disappointed with the poor effort of a breakfast. Will definitely not be staying here again or eating food in the restaurant. Poor effort and disgusted.

We stayed a Sunday night at the Salthill hotel and had a very enjoyable stay. It is right at the middle of the promanade and perfect for walking either way. Indeed the currach races were in front of the hotel when we arrived. The room we stayed in was nice, comfortable and big. The view of an internal courtyard could have been better. Dinner in the Prom resteraunt facing the atlantic was enjoyable, while breakfast in the other dining area set us up well for the day. We had music and dancing in the lounge after dinner. All in all a 4 star stay. Thanks Lidl again.

We had a really lovely time at the Salthill Hotel. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, nothing was too much trouble, even finding my coat after I'd left it on a tour bus! Some of our family were staying at the G Hotel and they complained about how difficult it was to get a cup of tea at breakfast. Everything was served at the Salthill promptly and with a smile. The pool area was super clean and it was great to have two pools, so the kids didn't interfere with some real exercise! Our family room was a little cramped but included a superking for the grown ups and my two boys were delighted they didn't have to share a bed. Unbelievably there were plenty of vegetarian options for the dinner and these were pretty good. The only downside were the other guests. What makes people think it's alright to shout down a corridor at 3am when other people are sleeping? I think a reminder to them to stay quiet late at night would not go amiss. My tip would be to leave the car at the Salthill and catch a bus for only €1.70 into Eyre Square. Taxis cost quite a bit.

This is a really lovely hotel. It is just across from the famous salthill promenade. Lovely view of Galway Bay. The hotel is very welcoming. Myself my wife and two cousins from Chicago stayed here last week. The rooms were excellent and our dinner was lovely. The rate with the lidil breaks was excellent. We had never stayed in this hotel before and I would recommend it. It is not too far from the city centre. It is about a 10mn. drive or you can take a bus. It is a lovely walk along the promenade, very refreshing. We would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone going to Galway. It is central too for anyone wishing to drive out towards Connemara. The music is also very good.

Would recommend this hotel for all age groups, with seaside location and proximity to the vibrant Galway City.

Really nice hotel this was our second time to stay at this hotel. We were delighted to get a room with a seaview as requested. Beautiful rooms very well kept and clean. Staff were very effiicent especially in the bar. Very nice leisure facilities, really nice food with a good menu. Only complaints we had was there was a limited choice of meals for young child (20mths) either baby bowl or a course off the kiddies menu which worked out quite expensive for a baby. Also upon arrival a pre authorisation was taken from our credit card which we thought wouldnt actually be taken from our account, however on checkout we found we had to pay the full balance as well as the pre authorisation amount being "frozen" for up to 3 working days which was a bit of pain if you hadnt budgeted for it. On querying this we were told "this is the way its done". However we have stayed at many hotels around the country and havent experienced this. A pre authorisation is often taken but the amount is not "frozen" for 3 days were it cant be accessed. At the very least it would be nice if guests were warned that this would happen. On the whole a lovely hotel. Giving a four star rating taking 1 off for the two reasons above.

Spacious bathroom with a glass shower screen, not a curtain, and double vanity basins. Air con as well as music (Power TV media player) on the telly, it just needs a little cheap digital safe and it would be up there with the best .Food was really good, served in the new bistro to the front, much trendier than the old restaurant at the back where breakfast is served. Leisure centre is superb. Will be back.

Stayed here on the 25th to 27th nov. First night was terrible as there was a wedding directly below our room. no sleep until after 4am. even in the morning we could hear the piped music and chairs being moved. HOWEVER, staff were very appologetic and moved us to a room on the third floor which was was very nice, quiet and second night was really nice. So a nice place to stay, provided you are not on the first floor!

Stayed in Satlhill Hotel for 3 nights 20, 21, 22 nd November 2011 There was a great buss in the hotel when we arrived, the Galway Glamor Day was on so there was lots of people around. We got a warm welcome from the reception Staff. Our room was not ready as we were a little early so the porter looked after our luggage and brought it to our bedroom . We were on the 3rd floor which i requested and we had the most beautiful view looking out at the sea. The room was very nice and spacious. We eat in the hotel the 3 nights the food was excellent and the staff were lovely and all very friendly I think this hotel should be a 4 star. I will be back in 2012 Please God Ed and PP Kildare

Lovely hotel ideally located just across the road from the promenade so we were able to get out for a leisurely walk as the weather was good. Stayed for one night and the evening meal was included which was top class as was the service. Our stay was for one night so didn't get to try out the leisure facilities but maybe next time as would definitely stay at this hotel again. Top marks to Lidl also and I think this is the fourth time that I've booked a great value break with them.

myself and my husband had a two night stay in the hotel. we really enjoyed the break. the only fault we found was the entertainment on Saturday night did not start until after 10 30 which we found to be a bit late. The staff could not be more helpful and would recomment a stay in this hotel. food was lovely and will definetly return

We arrived at Salthill Hotel on 5th November 2011 and we were really impressed with the hotel , we were delighted to find out we had received an upgrade to a sea view room. The room was really big and the view was lovely. We went to book dinner and the hotel was really busy but after a short wait in the bar they found us a table. The food was lovely apart from the fact that the waiter spilt my pint of Guinness on me which he did replace and I asked for chips instead of mashed potatoes and I got mashed potatoes and no chips. The waitress said she would change it but my wife had her meal so I just left it as it was. Our package included a two course dinner and we were give a three course menu , we pointed this out to the waitress as we didn't want the extra course added to our bill but she said it was fine that we could have the three courses. We had a nice evening in the bar afterwards , there was live music on and the bar was busy which gave a great atmosphere. Overall we had a good experience , the staff were very helpful and we would return and we were very happy with what we got for the price we paid , I think we got a bargain. We would recommend this hotel to any visitors to Salthill.

First immpressions - check in was not great, didnt get full attention that I would expect.Food was very good.Room was very nice and very clean. Had pre requested a quiet room as light sleepers and was assured we had recieved one. We were placed on top floor, 4 flights above bar and function room, and the bass thumped through the room till 3.15am after phoning reception, complaining, at 3.00 am...not conducive to a good nights sleep at all. Next morning, Manager very nice and very apologetic and sent us a complimentary bottle of wine and reassured us he had informed his night management that music would cease before midnight on Saturday. The bass finally stopped thumping through the room at 12.40am. Fantastic value for money under the Lidl Breaks Package but unfortunately I was using the hotel for somewhere to sleep - isnt that what hotels are for?.We were visiting Galway to see our student son, but will not return to Salthill Hotel again.

We stayed for Two nights in this hotel in October. Right upon entering the hotel we were greeted by a member of staff who told us there was a wedding party checking in and there could be a delay of a few minutes, while we were waiting this gentleman took the time to ask us where we had travelled from and wished us a pleasnt stay in the hotel, we took this as a great first impression of a fine establishment. It did not stop there either, from the lady who checked us in who was very friendly, everything about the hotel was first class: the rooms were large and comfortable, the bathroom and shower was spotless, the bar and its staff were top notch, the food in both the restaurant and in the bar was delicious, the buffet breakfast the following morning was perfect after a stroll along the promenade which the Salthill Hotel is very conveniently located adjacent to. All in all, we were puzzled upon leaving that this hotel is rated as only 3 star when it far outreaches this status. This is a top quality hotel located in gorgeous surroundings and it is definitely worth recommending. We will be returning to stay here again in the future for sure. L & T

Salthill Hotel was a lovely hotel - bedrooms were nice and roomy and the staff very friendly. After booking with Lidl.ie we got great value for money for our weekend at the hotel. I would rate Salthill Hotel 5/5 as it was a pleasant hotel to stay in.

Firstly the Lidl Break offers are fantastic value and very easy to access online. We stayed at the Salthill Hotel in Galway fo 2 nights B&B and 1 evening meal. The experience was fantastic from the time you enter the hotel up to the tme you leave it. The staff at reception, the bar and resturaunt were very friendly and helpful and the food in the resturaunt was top class. The breakfast each morning was one of the best we have had in any hotel. The only minor thing was the lack of entertainment in the hotel bar. Eventhough it was midweek a bit of live music would not have gone astray. Altogether though this was a 5 stay visit and stay at the Salthill Hotel and well done to Lidl for their offers. Fantastic stay and fantastic value. We will definitely be visiting the Salthill Hotel again and it will be booked through the Lidl website.

Apologies for only replying to your request now. The location is superb as we have a small baby and did not need to get into our car once as all amenities were close by. The leisure facilities were amazing and allows for everyone as it is so big. The hotel itself was very nice, clean and well kept. However there were a few attention to detail issues. The first on check in it was confirmed we had a cot ordered and yet we still had to wait for an hour for it to come to the room along with this we also rang for an iron three times and finally it arrived after over an hour too...The food was good enough really. On the day of check out at eleven we went to go for a swim and suddenly we realised there was no water in the room, we didnt take too much notice of this and they said it would be back in about half an hour, so we continued to go swimming. It was well over an hour before anything came back and at this all black stuff flowed out of the taps and then it went off again. We got no notification about this and it delayed us waiting and after all that we still had to leave the hotel without having showers and it was very inappropriate. The hotel really didnt have much to say regarding the matter, yet i found it appalling we were not given prior notice to rearrange our plans. It was very unfortunate that this happened as we really enjoed our stay but the ending spoiled it. Regards Maria Lynch

Brilliant Hotel can't understand its low star rating have stayed in 4 star hotels that couldn't match its quality or even come close. Staff very helpful & polite, view from room breath taking, most comfortable bed I've ever slept in & whole hotel spotlessly clean would definitely go again.

What can i say everything perfect the hotel and staff were execelent food perfect especially the seafood chowder. The only complaint was the price of drink in the bar but that is to be expected in Hotels. We will be booking again with Lidl and have told so many people about the break offers the value was unbeleivable. Christy and Elaine Dublin.

My sister and I had a most pleasant stay in the Salthill hotel. There was a lovely frienly atmosphere. The food was excellent both dinner and breakfast with a great selection and wonderful service. The bedroom was spotless and cosy. The only complaint is that the bed was very warm, as I like a cool bedroom. Would I go back? Definitely. Thanks to Lidl, what great value for money. Well done!

The break was great value for money. The Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was clean and large. I found the down duvet a little "noisy" when I moved in the bed. The pillows were soft and welcoming when you lay down. I do'nt do fitness so I cannot comment on that area. The location is a treat especially when it comes to sunset. Some of the lounge's fabric covered chairs were a bit grubby so I declined to use them. The food was delicious in the bar and especially in the restaurant. You got just enough to satisfy and keep you happy. Would I go back, yes I could be very easily tempted with prices like that. George Melia.
