Lovely hotel. Upgraded to suite - very comfortable. Food lovely. Staff very friendly.
Great location fabulous food and friendly staff…. Would recommend with value for money also.
Very nice hotel, not the most modern but excellent staff and food.
Brilliant Hotel Staff exceptional Food 1st class Room spotless We now love Cork Will definitely come back
Perfect location, very solid
Staff Friendly and room comfortable
We stayed in room210 and it was very noisey late at nighr and early in the morning . Otherwise the hotel eas excellent
Would recommend this hotel for the friendliness of its staff, the comfort of its accommodation and the excellence of its location in the heart of Cork city
The Metropole is a lovely hotel and would stay there again. However, I booked a twin room and got a double. They couldn't transfer me to another room as they were fully booked.
Had a lovely stay in this beautiful hotel! It really felt like Christmas with Christmas trees and a pianist playing & so beautifully decorated and lovely and clean! The only complaint I would have is we were kept awake in the early hours with other guests partying so it was hard to get a great nights sleep, which is the hotel’s fault.
Nice hotel. Well located within walking distance of city centre shops and restaurants. Delicious breakfast and friendly staff
We enjoyed our stay greatly. From the time we checked in the staff at reception, dining room, bar, room attendants all were very pleasant and professional. Covid recommendations were adhered to. It was our wedding anniversary and they certainly made it memorable for us. We had a lovely room facing Mc curtain Street which we enjoyed. We will return. Thank you so much.
Beautiful hotel in great location, staff very friendly
Great hotel
Beautiful room which wad spotlessly clean! Fantastic, friendly staff that went the extra 'smile' to make our stay a very enjoyable one. Nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was excellent. Looking forward to our next trip to the Metropole.
Council working on footpath outside hotel with set down blocked. Lady on reception was polite but could not find our reservation. It appears that the hotel could not find our Lidl reference number as they use the surname only. I gave the name as Coman and the ref number and not the booking name of Nagle Coman. Utter confusion and the trainee 'gentleman' who arrived on the reception counter was a great ad for turning people off a hotel. He was hostile. We got a room in a corner just under the roof. When we complained about the room the matter was quickly rectified. by two duty managers. The initial reception was so bad that things could only improve....and they did.
Single room 2nd floor. Mostly excellent , very friendly, very clean with free wifi. A few hiccups. 1. Room TV reception poor. 2. Room window was a cold spot despite curtains. 3. On upper floors signage for lift which was small and slow but no signage for direction to stairways. This was a worry, hence only 3 stars.
Lovely hotel and very central to all the shops. It is a walk away from Kent station.Would highly recommend this hotel.
Had a lovely stay here at weekend...staff were very friendly and helpful in central hotel...ill be back again
Great location; great staff....... rooms okay but could do with moderisation
We stayed in the Metropole Hotel with Lidl break and were upgraded to a suite free of charge which was great, We have stayed in the Metropole Hotel on numerous occasions and never got up grade before, so thanks for that. Hotel well located with easy access to the city for shopping. Nearby parking is very handy. I would recommend this hotel any time.
Great location, lovely food.
Great location, food was lovely, staff were so friendly and helpful at all times. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Lovely hotel staff excellent, close to shops and breakfast excellent
Enjoyed stay at Metropole hotel Cork, staff very helpfully from time of check in Hotel clean and great value for money.
Enjoyed our stay - Very busy when we stayed & they needed more than 1 person on reception - Overall very good 3 Star rating
Walking distance to city centre and staff very helpfull and friendly.
Just love The Metropole Hotel. My husband and myself have stayed here often. We find the staff very friendly and helpful. The location is spot on and it is great value for your money. We would recommend to anyone who is visiting Cork city to stay here. We will definitely be back.
would recommend this hotel. Very good location-10 mins walk from train station & 5 mins walk into Patrick Street. Room & bed was a bit small but room was spotlessly clean. The only problem was the safe in the wardrobe was on the very top shelf-had to get a chair to reach it. Staff were very friendly. Use the leisure facilities & again very clean. Would come back again
Lovely comfortable hotel in a great, central location. We had a fantastic stay in Cork and really enjoyed the Metropole. Good value for money too.
Great location, staff very friendly and accommodating. Public areas great, rooms a little tired and dated but comfortable. Great value for money. Would recommend.
excellant hotel and very accomodating staff
excellant hotel very convinent to train and bus stations lovely staff very friendly stayed with my husband for 3 day break very good value thanhs to lidl break will be back
the staff there are friendly and courteous. your request for anything is seen to quickly and efficiently . The food is good but the breakfast could be kept much warmer than it is at the moment. The location is wonderful, Cork is a beautiful city , thank you for the chance to see it .
Hi . I had to go to cork on a last minute trip on Monday 10 August ,I got a good deal Tnx to today F.M..Hotel (metropole) was perfect in every way ,I will be booking thru Today again ,THANK YOU .
So easy to walk to from the bus station. Also, easily able to walk around the city from this hotel. Fast check in. The rooms were very roomy ,bed were so comfy , Breakfast was terrific and the leisure facilities you die for.
we stayed her because we were running the marathon, originally gave us a single but soon sorted us out, very accommodating at breakfast and the guy in the leisure center carried my bags up the stairs(ewalk9ing was a problem) would stay again
April 2015 - We stayed with a group of 6 women on a girlie night reunion. Hotel was very central, all staff we met along the way were very pleasant, they were a pleasure to deal with. We were part of a lidl break so ate in the hotel restaurant, the food was fabulous, couldnt fault it. the only faults we could find was the bedrooms were quite cold (windows were closed) (we had three twin rooms and all thought the same) and there is no tea making facilities in the rooms. Other than that, we would stay there again and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you to the staff of The Gresham Metropole.
Great location, very friendly and helpfullstaff.
I would highly Reccomend This hotel To My friends & Family uor experience was a very positive one and enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Meals were 1st Class i would hope to return again soon, And a very Big Thanks To All Of You I would Rate You 5 from 5
Our stay in the Gresham Metropole Hotel in Cork was very good. I would recommend it to anyone the staff were lovely and could not do enough for you. I would say it was a 4 star
We travelled by train, within walking distance to the hotel. Stayed for 2 nights. We loved it, such great value. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was self service. It was delicious. Dinner was tops and the waitress was a dote. The hotel was so clean and so convenient for walking to the city. Went to a concert in the Cork Opera House, which is only across the bridge. No distance to walk. It can be seen from bedroom windows. Will definitely return. Highly recommended. Sarah
Really enjoyed our stay at the Gresham Metropole Hotel. The staff wrere wonderful. Prior to arriving I was in correspondence with Christine. She was so helpful. I had booked my niece in with my sister and I for one night with dinner which I had paid in full. Unfortunately she became ill and was unable to eat her dinner. The hotel gave me a full refund for the meal. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars was we ran out of toilet paper and I had to request twice to get some in the room.
Very good hotel.I would recommend it.Very central in Cork with very friendly staff.
Hello, just a quick review for the hotel, we enjoyed our stay for the 2 days that we were there recently. The staff were all very pleasant and very helpful, and the hotel was very clean. Thank You, Frank Farragher.
Excellent hotel food room above average could have no complaints receptionist and staff in general very helpful excellent hotel convenient to all amenities
we found the hotel very professional from the time of our arrival to departure we had no commplaints a bonus was the situation of our room overlooking the river lee the leisure centre is very well equipped in every way the food was excellent the weather was kind to us we shall return in the future pg
Great location, Clean and lovely breakfast - served our purpose perfectly!
Nice old style hotel. Very good location. Rooms are basic but comfortable and very clean. Stayed here on the 15th June 2014 - room was very warm and we had a problem opening the windows - housekeeping staff were very nice and rectified the problem and then brought us a fan as well. Breakfast very good also. Will definately be back
Hotel rooms are dated, dinner in restaurant was very poor the night we ate there. Location is great and leisure centre and it's staff are fantastic.
We arrived on wed afternoon and we were welcomed by a nice gent on reception desk we were given a 4TH floor room my wife is a bit scared of lifts so when we came down later in the evening i spoke to a very nice young lady Kelly on reception who moved us at my request to a room on the 2nd for duration of our stay we have stayed in cork several times But with the general; service we received in the Gresham Metropole Hotel from all the staff we will certainly be returning there the management have a real professional in receptionist Kelly they should look after her well thanks to all staff
GREAT CENTRAL HOTEL,LOVELY BREAKFAST AND DINNER,STAFF VERY HELPFUL
I would highly recommend this hotel, Very central location
Great location, very nice staff, lovely leisure facilities, great value and would definitely stay there again...
My husband & I stayed at the Gresham recently on a Lidl Break, and as usual we had a 1st class experience at the Hotel ,excellent food , and beautiful room, couldn't be any better Narry
My sister and I stayed at the Gresham Metropole on 2nd February and were delighted; lovely room, great bathroom and everything so clean. Breakfast was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and they even allowed us to leave our luggage after we checked out , to be collected after we'd had a trip around the city. Would certainly recommend this hotel and we will be back!
Excellent hotel, service excellent all around especially Lorraine in the restaurant for dinner, central to all shops
highly recommend this hotel very central great food, lovely staff spotlessly clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lovely Hotel. Fabulous chatty staff. Had dinner here in the evening it was lovely. So convenient to the shops. It's ideal for a shopping break. Parking close to hotel. Would stay here again. Lovely rooms and spotlessly clean bathroom. All in all a good experience
Brilliant hotel in a great location. We will be back. Staff absolutely lovely.
Hotel was lovely and staff here friendly.
Its a lovely Hotel, the staff are lovely the rooms are lovely too cant wait to go back in July
We stayed here last Saturday and we had a fantastic time. The hotel was warm and friendly and the staff could not have been nicer. We eat in the Restaurant that evening and the food was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to friends for its convenience to the city and shops and also the helpful staff. We will be back again.... :)
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was ok . Breakfast only ok. Dinner was very bad, I just couldn't eat it. The hotel is close to Patrick Street but next time we won't stay here
Stayed recently and were very happy with our stay. Tis a lovely hotel, staff great very helpful and the food was very good. The location was great as it is very near the main shopping street in Cork. Will definitely return and would recommend it to friends. Lidl breaks are great value for money and we are looking forward to more breaks next year,
The standard overall is very high. The food was good plus excellent gym/swimming facilities. The room was small, but adequate for what we were paying. Very close to the city centre, so ideal for shoppers. We will definitely go back, also staff very helpful.
Hotel was nice. Staff were very nice and friendly. Food was lovely. We had dinner there as part of out deal and it was lovely. Breakfast was lovely as well. Couldnt fault the hotel itself. It was the parking that was a nightmare and finding the hotel as i would not be familiar with Cork City.
Excellent location and friendly staff. Good breakfast and would recommend to anyone seeking a hotel with character and friendly atmosphere
Very comfortable and excellent location. Highly recommended.
We stayed at the Gresham Metropole Cork recently, it is the 2nd time we have stayed there with Lidl breaks & we had a lovely stay ,the Staff were very helpful & pleasant ,& we had a great evening meal & the breakfast was excellent ,the Hoteli is really convenient for shopping & theatres ,looking forward to a 3rd stay, thanks for a lovely mini break Nora
Excellant location , pleasant helpfull staff , room clean and tidy . Cetral location in Cork. Parking very good . Our evening meal at the bar was well presented and friedly staff. Would stay again
Stayed in Gresham Metropole hotel on Sat 28th Sep. We had a lovely stay. Our room was nice & spotlessly clean. We had a B&B plus dinner deal. Dinner was nicer than I had expected & breakfast was really good. Plenty of everything & hot buffet was very good. The staff were lovely too. This is an old hotel so some parts are in need of a little TLC but otherwise it was excellent value for money & I would stay there again.
Hotel is centrally located and really convenient to the city centre. Discounted car park nearby which is handy. Thats probably the best thing about the hotel. The room itself was really stuffy and there was a old musty smell. It was clean however. The breakfast OK. We asked for poached eggs one morning and they appeared about 15 mins later - rock hard and inedible. The leisure facilities are dated but adequate. Nice to have the option of a steam and swim. The hotel could do with a face lift but I acknowledge this would be a huge undertaking and very expensive. They should be commended on keeping the doors open for so many years! Staff very pleasant but probably wouldn't return.
Stayed for one night in the Gresham Metropole on Sat 21st Sept. Initially I had booked a twin room and we were allocated a double but this was changed when I showed my booking receipt. The staff in the reception and the restaurant were all very friendly and polite and the hotel was very clean. There was a bit of an issue with my bill on checkout, where I was being overcharged but this was dealt with promptly.
Stay at the Gresham for two nights, location was prefect with parking for €7.50 a day which is good for a city. The receptionist was so friendly and polite just raging I cant think of her name. Breakfast is served until 12 which is great as usually breakfast is earlier and I often miss it. Breakfast is excellent with a large variety, We also had dinner included in our stay which was nice could have been a little better thou. All round I would recommend and will returnn when back in the lovely city of cork.
Had a great time,food lovely,staff excelent,location brill
The room we were initially booked into was extremely small and stank of smoke! I telephoned reception to see if we could change rooms and they immediately up-graded us to an executive room which was great. The girls serving breakfast were very nice and overall, its a nice central hotel.
Nice hotel, good breakfast, surprisingly good dinner too. Would reccomend to friends
Hotel was centrally located and just a short walk from the train station. Single room was small and basic but was fine for my needs. Breakfast was fab. I'd definitely stay here again.
We stayed for one night and found the hotel very central to everything in Cork city centre.. The room was very nice and spotlessly clean. The view from room 425 is mixed. On the one hand you are overlooking the air conditioning units and yard but looking past this the view over the river, St Patricks bridge and the Gurraneabraher hill is lovely. The bar while very glamorous is not very atmospheric and was mostly empty. The breakfast was the usual help yourself to juice and cereals and self service full Irish. Our experience of booking through Lidl was very positive. I inadvertently booked two rooms instead of one and cancelling the second room through email to Lidl breaks was painless. Overall for what we paid the value was fantastic.
Good clean room food in restaurant good with somewhat restricted choice on menu. Steff very friendly. Overall a very pleasent stay.
Had a lovely stay - staff were very nice and friendly. Pool was great for my little one, and we had the dinner package, was a set menu, very tasty, the sauce on the salmon was a proper stock based reduced cream sauce, and a good sauce makes or breaks a dish! Breakfast was lovely, fresh and tasty, would stay again, this is my second stay here. A very good 3 star hotel and nice and close to the city for some shopping.
Fantastic Hotel stayed just the one night.we had a great room over looking the river the hotel was very clean and the staff couldnt do enough for us will definately stay there again
Nice hotel and nice staff. Would stay again when next in Cork City.
IWe really enjoyed our stay in the Gresham Metropole Hotel. Its location is brilliant as you're right beside the city centre for shopping, sight seeing and dining out. The room was clean, comfortable and well furnished-it looks as if the hotel has recently been renovated. We dined in the restaurant and the food was excellent for breakfast and dinner-great choice, excellent service and very pleasant staff. We would stay here again and would be happy to recommend the hotel to our friends. The only downside is that parking is limited and incurs an extra charge but we figured it was worth it. Next time we hope to stay for longer and use the leisure centre.
really great stay at this hotel. good location, close to town, staff very helpful, accommodated my friends dietary requirements effortlessly. The rooms are comfortable, clean and well appointed. Breakfast was buffet style and the food very good quality. my only criticism is with the cereal, juice, fruit table being in corridor outside the breakfast room, open to contamination:( The dinner was lovely and again staff very open to options off set menu if required.
Hotel very convenient to city, good value for money, tea/coffee facilities in room, 7euro 50c for parking but that covered until midnight on day of checkout, which suited us ideally. Nice view out over river. Would stay again. Teresa March 14th, 2013
My self and my wife stayed at the Gresham on 24th March. The hotel was lovely and clean and the food was excellent. The check in staff were excellent.I would like to say a special word of thanks to the Duty Manager of that day who looked after us so well .Overall a very enjoyable break. Many thanks. Arthur Ward
Hi, Just a quick review after our stay at the Gresham Metropole in Cork, The hotel and staff were 1st class no complaints with either. Only complaint we would have is we had a problem with the key card for the room, on sunday after breakfast when we went back to room to get ready to go out the card would not work, so we had to wait for about 30 min. to get it sorted. the night when we came back to the hotel we had the same problem. This is the only problem we had again staff were as helpful as possible. Regards, Martin Devaney
room very good, service excellent, food brilliant , god time had thanks
Very pleasant staff in a very comfortable hotel. Great value.....
Good value stay in excellent location. Set dinner menu was very limited but food was good. Room was fine - bath rather worn.
Very satisfactory stay. Very good three star hotel. It seems to "set the standard" I very much doubt you would be disappointed if you stayed here.
Stayed just the one night, receptionist was extremely helpful and pleasent. Room however was like walking on the side of a hill!! very strange!! Minute you walked in the room the floor sloped away from you....this I felt was quite dangerous, and one end of the room was about 6 inches lower than the other...am not joking! The overall stay, short though it was, was enjoyable and I would certainly use it again...but definitely not the same room, and it was room 319 if anyone wants to check it out! Pat
A nice hotel, well run. The majority of the staff would go out of their way to make sure that the guests were catered for. There is always the exception of the one who will try to avoid work and leave more for his collegues to accomplish. We encountered him briefly at breakfast before he dissappeared again. All in all it was a nice clean hotel and the staff we encountered on the first evening were very professional and helpful. We hope to stay there again as it is very central to Cork city centre.
Fairly central location and withing walking distance of city centre attractions. Unfortunately parking is not included in price. Hotel was clean but some parts looking a bit dated at this stage. Its an old building and creaky floorboards do nothing for the ambience. We were on top floor so it was ok but one lady I met in elevator said she was kept awake by people moving around on the floor above. We didnt have time to use the leisure faciliaities or wi-fi so I cant comment on them at all. We ordered food in the bar on New Years Eve & service was terrible. Food came from kitchen & was left on the bar counter for 5 minutes before it was delivered to our table. I had to go up and ask if it was ours and if i could take it. Guy then brought it down and I realised that they got the order wrong. He had just left before we then realised that we had no cutlery on the table so I had to go up to the hatch at the bar and get it myself. When it came to paying, I had to explain again that the food order was wrong (no chips and salad came out although it was written on the food order docket by barman) and they had to change the bill. The Bar was not busy on the night in question...about 4 tables with people dining at them and about 6 or 7 patrons at the bar. Staff seemed untrained or disinterested in their work. On the plus side, the hotel was reasonably priced at €78 for a double room which included a good breakfast for two people (juices, tea/coffee, cereal, fruit toast etc and full Irish breakfast). I've given it 3 stars as it was fair for the price but had we paid any more then I would be expecting much better service. If i was back in Cork I would not stay here again unless it was much cheaper than competitors
This is a great hotel, in a very central location to the town centre, bus and train station. The dining room over looks the river, with views from the bedroom of the city lights. Rooms were excellent, very clean and comfortable. Only one complaint, that the rooms were not warm enough in the night and the heating took too long to kick in, in the morning, it was very late December so exceptionally cold but I survived so not too much of a problem, my elderly parents were in the room next door and they didnt feel it cold at all. The food and service was excellent, , plenty of food and warm, very attentive staff. Breakfast was self service and plenty of it and also warm, can get breakfast from 8-12, which suits everyones needs. Lovely facilities, in the form of a heated pool, jacuzzi, steam and hot room, full size gym with all the equipment you could need. The staff were all friendly and helpful with plenty of local knowledge. There is a late night bar and plenty of comfortable seating around the lobby area to lounge in. I would definetly use this hotel again when visiting Cork.
Great hotel and great value for money
we had a great time, the rooms were nice and cousy and food was great . would stay again and the staff were very friendly. henry c
The Gresham Meteropole is a lovely hotel i love staying there its in a great location not far from town the staff are lovely and would stay there again and again and again
Thank you for a very pleasant stay. Room was spacious and spotless. Staff in reception were very polite and helpful. Food in the bar was delicious and affordable. It was a very pleasant experience
Very nice hotel and good location since we travelled by train and wanted to do shopping - very close to town centre. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly. Only downside was that our room fronted a very busy road with ongoing traffic. We would return but would not take a room in the front of hotel.
We stayed in the Gresham Metropole Hotel for two nights and had a very comfortable and spacious room. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We used the leisure centre and were very happy with all the facilities provided. The restaurant is a fine, bright and cheerful room overlooking the city and river. We enjoyed our breakfasts, but felt the evening meal was nothing special. Having said that, we felt we got good value and were happy with our stay. M&S
great location, rooms a little small. would go back. staff were lovely and food was tasty in the bar. one issue i had was on the day we were leaving the cleaners walked in on us twice even though we were leaving that morning and the do not disturb sign was on the door.
Good for cork shoping small room but fine good food and staff Ok
My family stay was everything I had hoped for. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It was busy as the Cork marathon was on but the service was prompt and the food was good. The rooms were fresh and the beds very comfortable. The location was great with lots of shops and restaurants within a short walk. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Metropole Hotel.
The hotel is in a great location. Once you park the car you won't need it again. The pool is clean and suitable for all the family. The guy working there was very helpful and reasuring; i think this treatment was given coz we had a baby with us. The rooms were very nice. Some family rooms are smaller then others and can be a little cramped. One down fall would be that for such a big hotel they could do with more then one tiny and slow lift. We took the stairs slot and they were a little confusing. I would defiantly recommend this hotel to a friend. The hotel could do with a lick of paint here an there but for the price we paid it was a bargain.
we had a fabolus stay in the Gresham Cork, the staff were super ,helpful & Friendly,& the foor was excellent.all in alll ,will definatley be back
LOCATION PERFECT. STAFF LOVELY. NICE BAR WITH GOOD MENU. ROOMS SMALL BUT GRAND FOR 1 NIGHT AWAY. VERY NOISY THOUGH AS WE LOOKING OUT ON MCCURTIN STREET. NEXT TIME I WILL ASK FOR ROOM OPPOSITE SIDE OF HOTEL. WOULD RECOMMEND
The location is fantastic. Really central to everything. The rooms were spotless clean. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you except for one receptionist who seemed to be in a senior position. She was abrupt, made little attempt at conversation and seemed to pass us off to someone else whenever possible. I got the impression we were beneath her. Everyone else on reception was more than helpful and polite. The rooms were very warm all the time but especially unbearable at night. There is no air con which meant opening the window, which rattled allot and left in all the noise from the street below. Not a very restful stay. All of that said we still really liked the hotel (bar food and breaky was pretty good) and we would definitely stay there again.
Enjoyed staying in this hotel, very good location, nice room and quiet.
This hotel is very good value. The lobby, bar and bedrooms are lovely. The leisure centre and the staff really let them down. Leisure centre staff are so unhelpfull and the breakfast staff where not much better. The breakfast is €16 normally, if i had of paid €16 for it i would have wanted a refund. Very unorganised and staff not willing to help you.
just to say thank you for a lovely night at your hotel.it was both pleasent and comforable. is very close to the main streets and has very tasty food and the staff are efficent and helpfull. i would share details of this hotel with my friends star rating 4
We stayed in the Metropole on Thursday 08/03/12 having booked one night's B&B for 2 via the Lidl website for €78. There was a chance that we would be staying a second night but we weren't sure until we met some friends in Cork. There was no availability on the Lidl website for Friday 09/03/12 but there was on the hotel's own website at €89 for Friday night. We tried to park the car when we arrived but realised there was no hotel car park but there was a public carpark down the street. We entered the hotel lobby which was littered (and I mean covered) with departing guests luggage. We were greeted by a grumpy receptionist who checked us in and told us that the discounted car park charge for hotel guests is €7.50 (€8 for Joe public). So the room rate goes from €78 to €85.50. We then made our way into a tiny, rickety and claustrophobic lift to our room which was clean but shabby and dilapidated as was the rest of the hotel. Upon our return to the hotel that night we ordered a drink at the bar. The barman served our drinks and then asked us to have our drinks in the lobby as he was closing the bar. We went to bed. At breakfast we were greeted with limp undercooked sausages, runny fried eggs, diluted concentrate orange juice and brown mushy fruit salad. We were attending a function on Friday so had no time to look for another hotel and despite serious misgivings we enquired about booking in for a second night and were quoted a room rate of €99 for the second night by the receptionist. When I pointed out that the Hotel's own website the previous day had quoted €89, the receptionist told us that she would have to check this with her manager but that we would have to change rooms. We returned to our room to pack our bags. Whilst in the room we received a phone call which was transferred I think from reception to the manager and as the call was being transferred I overheard the receptionist say 'Oh them, they were like that when they checked in aswell'. The manager did agree to give us the room at the advertised rate of €89 but made it sound like they were doing us a favour and when I let her know about what I thought of their breakfast the manager asked me why we had not asked to see the duty manager in the dining room and brought this to their attention. I didn't appreciate either the sneaky attempt to extract an additional €10 out of us for the room or the attempt by the manager to transfer her responsibility for their lousy breakfast to us for our reticence to make a scene in the dining room. We changed rooms shortly after, got out of there and spent as much of that day out of the hotel as possible. We checked out the next morning and paid €170.49 for two nights B&B. This was for both of us the worst experience we've ever had in an Irish hotel and one that we will not be repeating in the future as I would rather stick needles in my eyes than ever contemplate crossing the threshold of the Metropole again. One star given as no facility for a minus star.
good clean hotel. friendly staff, good food couldnt fault it
We enjoyed our stay at the Gresham Metropole hotel, Cork, at the end of February 2012. The service, food and accommodation was excellent. The hotel is very well situated being near the city centre and near the main railway station. On our next visit we hope to stay in the same hotel.
Really enjoyed our stay in the Gresham Metropole, great location, fabulous staff and food. Delighted with the whole experience. Great value for money :-)
very good value, very good facilities, good food and very close to for shopping and to go to shelbourne bar nearby.
wee had a great weak end the food was great the hotel lovely it was a great deal
Had a wonderful time in the Greshan matropole Hotel , Rooms very comfortable, had a lovely breakfast over looking the river. Staff very friendly. We really enjoyed ourselves. Great rates with the Lidl Breaks. Will stay again
Stayed for 2 night break recently, food lovely in hotel, all staff very friendly and attentive, great city centre location. We had a room with a rain shower and jets that came out from the wall also-brilliant!!
We were happy with the hotel in general. We opened the window, however , as we both found the room warm but the bedroom door kept banging so we had to jam it with card board.
we have taken many Lidl bb breaks this was our first bb and dinner 2 night stay everthing was way above what we expected hotel staff were great as was the food our room if fact we will be taking many more please keep it up noel and maeve
had a wonderful stay at Gresham Matropole Cork . Really nice hotel central to everything , over the bridge and in city. Breakfast very good, as was the location of breakfast room over looking the river. Will be sure to stay again when going to cork. The staff very friendly.
1 Nights Stay, 2 Course Dinner/Coffee & Breakfast 98euro-Great Value!!! The hotel is centrally located for the City Centre (less than 5 Mins), Theatre, Bus & Rail Station. The hotel itself is Modern but maintains a period feel, rooms are a reasonable size with all mod cons & very nice en-suite bathroom. We found the staff to be professional & friendly. The hotel has excellent leisure facilities inc. pool, sauna & steam rooms, in addition to this the gym area is very modern and spacious. The restaurant is pleasant although we felt the food was slightly disappointing and the starters arrived a bit too quickly and seem pre-prepared, so food was ok but nothing special. Yes would stay again but next time would eat out.
stayed here last week had just one night would have liked more. the metropole has all you need from a city centre hotel. friendly staff, well equipped room, great location.
The hotel was lovely, the staff were friendly but the room itself was tiny, dated and roasting hot. (Room 309!) The pool was nice though, and you can't beat it for a central location.
good location and got a good deal at the price
Really lovely hotel, staff were fantastic and breakfast was very good, we would stay here again
Stayed one night for Christmas shopping trip. Great hotel - clean, warm and friendly. Good bar food and within walking distance to the main shopping area - would def stay there again..
We stayed one night and were made feel very welcome upon arrival. We dined there and the food was lovely. Rooms are clean have everything you need and good value for money. We hope to return. Rose
